The Eisenhower principle for leaders
"I have two kinds of problems, the urgent and the important. The urgent are not important, and the important are never urgent."
From this sentence of a speech of the former US President Eisenhower the Eisenhower Principle was derived, which is probably taught in every self-management seminar and most of you know. You check the importance and urgency of your tasks and prioritize what you do yourself, what you leave undone and what you delegate.
In daily business, however, deadlines are often unclear, the importance of tasks is unconscious or, despite clear priorities, we do not work through our list as robots. (Developing leadership skills, by the way, usually also falls into the quadrant that needs our main attention - important/non-urgent). Instead, fires are put out and we feel busy and think we are getting something done by prioritizing urgent.
Is what you are doing here really important for you? Is this post important for you?
What are to-dos that you could skip? What have you been putting off for a long time, even though it's important?
