Enthusiastic employees are the most powerful resource a company can have
Question for you as a leader:in: do you know your why, what is your drive?
Here's why: that feeling when you're really on fire for something🔥😍 - overtime doesn't matter, getting up 2h earlier doesn't matter, eating in front of the PC doesn't matter - you're just all in! That's not always healthy, but it's all about drive - you know why you're doing something and that it makes sense. This drive is also used by great leaders who get their team to take action. Not rewards or consequences, but enthusiasm! This kind of motivation is more involving than material incentives. That's because people who are enthusiastic see a deeper meaning in what they do and bring personal resources to bear to achieve the common goal. Take Martin Luther King Jr, Steve Jobs & the Wright Brothers: first of all, they have little in common, but they all started with WHY and that's exactly how they inspired their peers and gave them a sense of belonging.
There is a leadership model for this by Simon Sinek, author and management consultant: The Golden Circle. This communicates WHAT is done, HOW - and, very often forgotten, WHY!
👉The WHAT describes what is to be done for a company or an organization, e.g. the offer of a service.
👉The HOW shows how the WHAT is achieved: How are things done?
👉The WHY describes what the mission of a company or organization is. For what purpose was it founded? By what goal is success to be measured?
Many people are not clear about their WHY. Achieving 💵, for example, is not a WHY, but the result of WHAT and HOW. Successful companies are not only characterized by special business strategies or new thinking, they are simply able to inspire their employees & customers and start every decision-making process with the question of WHY. This also makes it easier to stand out from others. You are more authentic and imaginative and don't have to copy the competition. In addition, companies with a clear personality and a WHY attract the most motivated and therefore the best employees! Rather than relying on big paychecks, tighte deadlines or highly qualified graduates, it makes more sense to look for people who are already motivated for similar reasons.
👉Keeping the Golden Circle in balance isn't always easy. Because especially when success is achieved, the WHY is often neglected. Then bare numbers are favored and quick thinking and fixed successes come to the fore.
In Short: According to Simon Sinek, the question of why is always at the beginning. So, reflect on why you are doing something. If you want to inspire others, first tell them why you do things, not what you do. This thought is later the basis of every decision & communication. That's how you as a leader manage to build a loyal team and be successful in the long run.
