Learning to say no as a leader
In every yes, there is also a no - you have 24 hours a day and you spend them with thousands of decisions (often unconsciously).
If I say YES to the task my boss just threw on my desk, I might have to say NO to the things I had actually planned to do today - NO to going home?
Especially in corporate cultures characterized by goal setting and autonomy, it is important to provide decision-making support.
Junior employees in particular often think they have to do everything their supervisor tells them to do, and in multicultural teams it gets exciting because obedience to authority and conflicts with superiors are experienced differently from one culture to the next.
Successful leaders have found a way for themselves (in the right tone) to keep tasks away from themselves and set boundaries.
Learn to listen to your intuition - often, our gut tells us what the right decision is. It's like there's a 6th or 7th sense.
Should you say yes or no more often? Do your teammates know they should / are allowed to turn down work too?
