How Stop, Reflect & Correct bring you closer to your goals
Leader:inside question: Where are you and where do you want to go?
Do you know this? You start with big goals and ambitions (we'll leave the NYE Resolutions right out of this!) and then..., you somehow lose sight of them or make them smaller than they were. The mind is very quick at gaining insights and then carrying on as usual shortly after. Damn. This is where evaluation and correction comes in! It's time to pause and look at what you've actually changed since goal setting and where you may now make a course correction. #backontrack 💪
For this, let's take a look at the Mind Behavior Gap. It describes the gap between what our mind presents to us and what we have actually implemented.
Example: If someone strongly believes environmental protection is important, but still regularly uses single-use plastic products or uses inefficient forms of transportation = Mind Behavior Gap! Since we are usually strongly identified with our mind, we are often not that aware of this gap. But by better understanding this gap, we can develop strategies to better align our behaviors with goals and beliefs. One of the most important tasks to success, is to close this gap! This is true for you as a Leader:in, as well as for your team. Here is how:
1. work out the actual state
Where do you really stand?
2. identify goals
Where do you want to go?
3. validate
Did ___ really bring you closer to your goal?
4. correct
What do you need to change to get closer to your goal?
If you already have a goal, you can measure your success concretely by the following:
1. by your effort
How much time and attention did you devote to your goal, e.g. "Being able to present better"?
2. by your understanding
Has your understanding or that of your team changed?
3. your change
What has changed concretely?
✔️In of your perception
For example, have you become more confident when presenting?
✔️In of your colleagues' perception
Ask your colleagues if they can perceive the change in you.
✔️In your quality of life
Have you become more relaxed?
✔️Was are concrete, demonstrable results?
List the results.
✔️Bitte ask others for feedback (yes, even as a leader:in).
In short:
Acknowledge your successes and failures!
Readjust goals. (at any time)
Correct your course.
Let's do this!
