Mastermind: the peer-to-peer principle in leadership

By Andre Ottlik · · 2 min read

What are Mastermind Sessions? Something like the Matrix? No, Neo.

Mastermind Sessions are regular peer-to-peer meetings where you exchange ideas with other leaders on a predefined agenda. All participants in the group benefit equally from the exchange, as knowledge and experience are shared at a high level.

You can achieve personal growth and solution approaches for challenges through impulses from the group.

What is important in the implementation?

Regularity - 1 hour every 2 weeks can be enough to take away new impulses. However, regular implementation is important!

👑 Agenda - Before you start the exchange, think together about which topics are relevant for you.

Timing - Being a leader often goes hand in hand with scarce time resources. Therefore, keep it crisp and do not overrun the planned time unit. That way, you'll be pushed with new input, but you'll be able to attend to your other tasks without restriction.

Organizing and preparing for mastermind sessions is key. Here are a few tips for you if you want to put together your own expert group:

👑 Identify participants - you can mix different industries, because this way an enriching exchange can take place.

Clear scheduling - leaders often have little time available. Therefore, plan the sessions early enough so that all participants can keep the time slot free.

👑 If you want to hold the meeting online - create an online whiteboard for better overview and orientation.

We are huge fans of the Mastermind principle and have added a cherry on top. You'll get insights into the High Performance Coaching model over several sessions. The cool thing about it is that you are coached, coach the other participants and thus can continuously work on current topics that are close to your heart or on your desk. Through contacts in other industries and new approaches to solutions, everyone learns from and with each other! An absolutely unique win-win situation!
