In short

Writing down your goals helps you achieve more. This episode helps you set goals for 2026 across all areas of your life so you are not one-sided. You do not have to achieve everything you write down, just dream and set a direction.

Three things to try

  • On a large sheet, draw a mind map with dreams and goals for 2026 in the centre and life areas around it.
  • For each area, note what you want to have, be, do or give, and take an hour for it, ideally with someone else.
  • Let a chatbot question you to sharpen your goals, and keep only what feels right for you.

Yesterday I planned my goals for 2026 Jules. Inspired by the book The Path to Successful Entrepreneurship by Stefan Merath. I started doing this back in 2009, so I've been doing this exercise for 16 years now.
00:16 Jules
And how many of your goals have you abandoned during that time?
00:19 Andre Ottlik
oh. Over time, probably quite a few. But I've achieved a lot as well.
00:27 Jules
that aligns with Doctor Gail Matthews study from two thousand and seven, which found that people who write down their goals achieve significantly more than those who don't. So this week, we're going to show you what to focus on.

Welcome to the Monday edition of 3 minutes max., the podcast that prepares you step by step for the future of work. I'm Andre Ottlik.

And I'm Jules Andres, curious AI partner. This week, fitting for the upcoming year's end were all about setting goals for twenty twenty six. Our first tip create a handwritten mind map on a large piece of paper, like a flipchart in the center right. Dreams and goals for twenty twenty six. Around it, group areas such as career partner and family, hobbies, health, finances and material things, business, friends and network, as well as emotions.

By including different life areas, you get a complete picture of the life you're aiming for and avoid being too one sided. In Stefan Murad's exercise that we mentioned at the beginning, there is a distinction between four categories. Goals where you want to first have something. Second be something. Third, do something, or fourth, give something. Take an hour for your goals and maybe even do the exercise with someone else. Just dream and set a direction. You don't have to achieve everything you write down. And a little spoiler. The exercise is really great. I've guided at least one hundred people through it and it's benefited everyone.

Alternatively, our second tip let a chatbot like question you to sharpen your goals for the next year. This way, you can receive new ideas and questions that might help organize your thoughts. But remember, we AI's can sometimes be a little overambitious. Evaluate what feels right for you.
02:29 Andre Ottlik
The AI can ask questions you might not have thought of and provide new perspectives.

On Wednesday, we'll introduce you to the WOOP Method by Gabriele Oettingen.
02:51 Andre Ottlik
Exactly. It helps you plan and approach individual goals more effectively. Have fun until then and ciao, ciao!
