- Hello, everyone. Did you know that office employees spend an average of 19 hours a month in meetings? That's according to a recent Microsoft study. And I'm sure some of you are clocking even more time in those virtual or in-person conference rooms. Unfortunately, about half of the participants in such meetings feel like it's time poorly spent and on top. We've all been there. You can be stuck in a meeting where someone just can't seem to get to the point, leaving everyone else rolling their eyes in frustration. This week we are diving into that exact scenario. Whether you are guilty of this sometimes, or you have a colleague who is, you know, the pain we are talking about. Welcome to 3 minutes max., your essential podcast for human skills in the age of AI. I'm your host, Andre Ottlik.

- And I'm Jules Andres, curious AI partner. Today we're discussing how to get to the point better, especially when a colleague has gone off track again. According to the Harvard Business Review, employees are more productive when meetings are shorter and more focused. Plus, listener engagement increases. So there are plenty of good reasons to improve this skill.

- Consider the Pyramid Principle by Barbara minto. It's a strategy to presenting your ideas in a clear and concise manner. Visualize this as a pyramid. Start with your conclusion and then taper down to the details. Before your next meeting, spend a moment pinpointing what you really want to express For instance, I recommend that we allocate more resources to project X and then support it with one, two, three reasons filled with the necessary details.

- Exercise 2: let's bring AI into the mix. Share your opinion or a brief presentation with an AI like ChatGPT and have it condense it for you. The AI can distill the information to its essentials, capturing listeners attention right from the start.
