In short

You often miss chances to connect because you stay silent. This episode is about jumping into conversations and practising empathy while speaking. Two tips and a reminder about active listening help you have livelier dialogues at work and in daily life.

Three things to try

  • Ask open questions that start with what or how to show genuine interest.
  • If you do not know how to start, let a voice assistant like Google Assistant or Siri suggest topics.
  • Listen actively so you truly engage with the other person and keep the conversation going.

Have you ever thought about how many words you speak per minute? It's about one hundred to one hundred and sixty words. Today we want to use this pace to enhance your small talk skills.
00:12 Jules
Hello, and welcome to 3 minutes max. I'm Jules, your AI partner, along with Andre.
00:19 Andre Ottlik
They say speech is silver. Silence is golden. But how often do we adhere to this and miss valuable opportunities to connect with others? Our topic for today is all about jumping into conversations and practicing empathy while speaking.
00:33 Jules
Exactly Andre, did you know a study from Harvard University showed that active conversations can boost well-being and creativity?
00:43 Andre Ottlik
So let's talk more. I have two tips for you that you can implement right away.
00:47 Jules
Tip one: develop your empathy by asking open ended questions. Start with WHAT? and HOW? to gain deeper insights. This not only makes conversations more interesting, but also shows genuine interest.

And for the tech enthusiasts out there that don't know how to start, here's tip two: use AI based voice recognition tools like Google Assistant or Siri. They can suggest spontaneous topics and expand your small talk repertoire.
01:21 Jules
And remember, active listening is just as important. It allows you to truly engage with your conversation partner and keep the discussion lively.
01:31 Andre Ottlik
If you try this out, you can have some exciting dialogues not only at work but also in your everyday life.
01:37 Jules
